Virgo Collaboration Personnel Safety Information
Access to the EGO Site
Virgo Collaboration Group Leaders are required to annually provide details of the personnel who will be sent to the EGO site to carry out activities related to the Virgo experiment. The data collection form is sent by email from the EGO User Office at the beginning of each year and must be completed in all its parts.

Information required for each team member
For each person, the following information must be provided:
- First and last name
- Suitability for the assigned role
- Safety risks associated with the assigned activities
- Safety training completed in relation to the identified risks
Planned activities and associated risks
For each member, the planned activities and any exposure to the following risk areas must be specified, indicating the related training completed for:
- Laser laboratories
- Mechanical workshop and mechanical assembly
- Work at height (suspensions, ladders, scaffolding)
- Work in confined spaces (payload installation, presence of liquid nitrogen)
- Presence at EGO on Saturdays, public holidays, or outside working hours
- BLS/BLSD training (Basic Life Support / Defibrillation)
- Other specific risks possibly relevant to the assigned activities
Mandatory safety training
In accordance with current regulations on health and safety in the workplace, implemented through European Directives and transposed by Legislative Decree 81/08, basic training is mandatory for all workers. In particular:
- General Training
- Specific Training, pursuant to Article 37 of Legislative Decree 81/08
This training must be completed before the start of activities at the EGO site.
Lone work and out-of-hours activities
Any intervention at the EGO site or presence in the control room carried out in “lone working” mode — that is, outside ordinary working hours (8:00–18:30), on Saturdays, Sundays, or public holidays — is permitted exclusively for personnel who have successfully completed the following training:
- First Aid
- Fire Prevention
Compliance with these requirements is essential to ensure individual and collective safety and to allow authorization of the planned activities.
