Seminar by Simone dell’Agnello, “Probing Gravity with Next-generation Lunar Laser Ranging.”
Tuesday May 17th, 2022

We are very happy to welcome on the EGO/Virgo site in Cascina Simone Dell’Agnello, Executive Technologist (Dirigente Tecnologo), INFN-LNF, Frascati. Tomorrow May 17th at 5 pm in EGO Auditorium, Prof. dell’Agnello will give a public seminar titled “Probing Gravity with Next-generation Lunar Laser Ranging”, which will also be streamed on Zoom.

Next-generation lunar laser retroreflectors have been designed by INFN (Italy) and U. Maryland (USA) to probe gravity with several and diverse fundamental physics tests, which include, but are not limited to: PPN (Parametrized Post-Newtonian) beta, the Weak and Strong Equivalence Principles, Gdot/G, inverse-square force-law (deviations in the form of Yukawa potentials), spacetime torsion, NMC (NonMinimally Coupled) gravity, all in the slow-motion, weak-field regime of the Sun-Earth-Moon system. This physics program has been carried out in the last decades already with the existing network of 3 Apollo and 2 Lunokhod laser retroreflector arrays. Imminent lunar surface launch opportunities and collaborations with ASI, ESA and NASA will be described. New potential sci-tech applications in cislunar space will also be hinted.
