For Scientists

Join the Virgo Collaboration

The Virgo Collaboration works as a community on the building, development and operation of the Virgo gravitational-wave detector, hosted by the European Gravitational Observatory (EGO) at Cascina, near Pisa, Italy. The members of the Collaboration cover a wide variety of roles, including: physicists, engineers, technicians, and administrative staff. The Virgo scientists are researchers or professors at many European institutes and universities, as well as PhD students, post-docs, graduate and undergraduate students.

The Virgo Collaboration works together with the scientists of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration and of the KAGRA Collaboration to form the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) Collaboration. The LVK Collaboration is a network of scientists who coordinate and collaborate on the operation of the detectors and on the production of the scientific results.

The Virgo collaboration welcomes new groups willing to contribute to the Virgo experiment. A new group should contact the spokesperson to express its interest and initiate the process. This starts a period of investigation for the possible group contributions . During this period, the spokesperson could invite the group candidate to various Virgo meetings in order to provide the relevant information to the group candidate and offer opportunity of discussions with collaboration members.
