Once again this year, EGO and Virgo are taking part in the “Giornate Galileiane” initiative organised by the Municipality of Pisa in collaboration with the Scuola Normale Superiore, the Pisa State Archives, the University of Pisa, the University Library, EGO – Virgo, Collego and the Walls of Pisa to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of the famous Pisan scientist in 1564 with a rich programme of events.
On Saturday February 15th we’ll meet at the Gipsoteca di Arte Antica in Pisa, for “La musica celeste prima e dopo Galileo. Cosmic sounds from antiquity to gravitational waves’, an event curated by EGO in which we will explore the link, imagined for centuries, between the celestial spheres and music, the motion of the planets and harmonic relationships, to discover how today, with gravitational waves, we are able to ‘listen’ to the most extreme and remote cosmic phenomena.
Speakers will be Sergio Giudici (Department of Physics, UNIPI) and Lucia Papalini (Virgo Collaboration, UNIPI), accompanied by musical interventions on the harp by Alice Caradente, moderated by Vincenzo Napolano (EGO).
