“The Sound of the Universe” at Genoa Science Festival

Oct 29, 2022

On Sunday October 30th at 9 p.m. in the Sala del Maggior Consiglio of the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, in the context of the Festival della Scienza, EGO is organising the event “The Sound of the Universe”, a dialogue on what it means to ‘listen’ to the Cosmos and how it can be done, with Wanda Diaz-Merced, Stavros Katsanevas and the musical contributions of Massimo Magrini.

The event will recount the multi-messenger revolution in Astronomy, which has also been enriched in recent years by its gravitational counterpart, and the frontiers of multisensory analysis of astrophysical signals, an equally significant revolution that aims to enhance our ability for scientific analysis, thus also favouring an inclusive approach to people with disabilities.

Three important personalities in the world of gravitational and multi-messenger astronomy will tell us about these two perspectives, in a special event at the border between science and art. Wanda Diaz Merced, blind astronomer and world leader in the sonification of astronomical data at the European Gravitational Observatory (EGO), and Stavros Katsanevas, Astroparticle physicist and director of EGO. Their dialogue will be accompanied by the artistic sonification of cosmic signals by musician Massimo Magrini.

The event is organised in the context of the European project REINFORCE.
