EGO joins EU project PICO

We are happy to announce that EGO is a partner of the newly launched European Project PICO  (PhysICs fOr all). The project aims to support all citizens to increase their awareness of fundamental, cutting-edge physics and of the impact that discoveries in this field have on their everyday lives with a specific focus on equity, diversity, inclusion, and gender equality which will be pervasive to all PICO events and activities. 

Most in person PICO events will take place during and around European Researchers’ Night (2024 and 2025) in 4 countries (Greece, Italy, France, Spain), but additional activities are planned throughout the whole year such as “researchers in school”, an initiative where students can meet researchers working on groundbreaking physics, and virtual tours to fundamental research infrastructures such as Virgo.

“Frontier physics and astronomy may seem not relevant to the daily lives of people, but that couldn’t be further from the truth, especially today. – says EGO Director Massimo Carpinelli – This is why we believe in the importance of sharing our work to the public, an effort that is especially successful within international collaborative frameworks such as European Projects. I believe that PICO will be an important addition to our outreach efforts and look forward to the collaboration with the other institutions within the project”. 

PICO is coordinated by Aristotelio Panepistimio Thessalonikis (AUTH), in addition to EGO the other project partners are: Ellinogermaniki Agogi Scholi Panagea Savva Ae (EA), Ethniko Asteroskopeio Athinon (NOA), Istituto Nazionale Di Fisica Nucleare (INFN), Trust-It Services, Centre National De La Recherche Scientifique Cnrs (CNRS), Instituto De Fisica De Altas Energias (IFAE-CERCA)
